What Has This Community Been Teaching You?
"I found all the different ways I could communicate with the ODIM staff and the people we were building the stove for. I couldn't speak to them verbally... but we communicated anyway... I thought it was so special how just being human allows those connections—you don't need a shared language, just to be yourself and communicate however is possible." — Fletcher
One of the gifts of this journey has been discovering that meaningful connections don't depend on perfect communication. While our team and our Guatemalan partners don't always share the same language, they have found countless ways to work together, laugh together, and learn from one another.
Mission has a way of reminding us that every person carries something to teach us. Curiosity becomes more important than confidence. Presence becomes more important than having the right words. The barriers we imagine are often much smaller than the bridges we discover.
As our team continues this week, we give thanks not only for the work being accomplished, but for the friendships taking root. These moments remind us that we belong to one another in ways that reach beyond language, culture, and geography. In Christ, we are connected not because we are the same, but because God's love is big enough to embrace us all.
Prayer
Gracious God, thank you for the gift of human connection. Open our hearts to receive the wisdom, kindness, and generosity of those we meet. May we grow in humility, deepen our compassion, and recognize your presence in every relationship. Amen.
